Colossians (2:6-7) 6 Therefore as you have received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in Him, 7 having been firmly rooted and now being built up in Him and established in your faith, just as you were instructed, and overflowing with gratitude. It begins at salvation. Ephesians (1:13) In Him, you also, after listening to the message of truth, the gospel of your salvation—having also believed, you were sealed in Him with the Holy Spirit of promise. So many believe and act as if that is where it also ends. Just pray a prayer, get your ticket and then go on about your life. Call on God when you “need Him” and as long as things are well materially, etc. well surely God is okay with your life. That is the spiritual mentality of most today. They are prime and easy prey for Satan, because he is all about them feeling at ease. Look again at our verses. Once we know Jesus, two things are to happen as we begin our walk in Jesus; 1. We are to be firmly rooted. This means to be thoroughly grounded and firm. One MUST be in a church that preaches, teaches and practices the solid truth of the Word of God. It MUST be a church that takes seriously discipling young believers with the Word. Once found, then the new believer is to immerse himself/herself in that local church. Deep biblical roots! 2. “Now being built up in Him and established in your faith” Do you see? “Being built up” That means that it is an ongoing, lifelong process. Once rooted and grounded in Christ Jesus and connected to His local church, we are established (solid) in our faith, keep on growing until Jesus calls us home! Then all the way home, our lives are to overflow with gratitude for God’s amazing grace!! THAT is the Christian life. Everything else is false hope.
